When I lived at the 1717 house, a major point of conversation was the adventures of Coconut Bob, our next-door neighbor. He had acquired his nickname stemming from an incident where he had bought a coconut at the local grocery store and unsuccessfully attempted to crack the hard shell on his front porch for nearly two hours, doing everything from stabbing at it with a knife to hitting it with a frying pan. Eventually, he got so frustrated that he threw it out into his garden, where it stayed. He was also notorious for giving unneccessary haircuts to neighborhood cats.
